Matthew Camp Loses Home in Arson Attack; Industry Rallies

LOS ANGELES — The industry has rallied around performer and content creator Matthew Camp, whose home was lost to an apparent arson attack last week. A GoFundMe page has been established to help him and a housemate re-establish their lives.

„In the early morning of January 14, Matthew’s home… was targeted in an apparent hate crime where an unknown person poured gasoline on the front porch, creating an explosion that woke Matthew up [and] giving him moments to get himself and [a] roommate out in safety,“ notes the GoFundMe text. „The entire home eventually burned for [over] three hours, leaving no personal possessions salvageable inside. Camera footage caught the attack and the perpetrator is being sought for attempted murder by the authorities.“

„Outside of his work as a queer content creator, activist and artist, Matt has spent years empowering and supporting sex workers, the queer community and outsiders in need,“ the text reads. „This is our chance to help repay him for his decades of care.“

Camp is the 2020 XBIZ Cam Awards winner for „Best Male Premium Social Media Star.“

„This is what hate looks like… they poured gasoline on my home while I was sleeping and set it ablaze,“ Camp wrote on Twitter. „I survived. I will not be silenced.“

The performer later expressed gratitude for the support from fans and industry colleagues.

„I know it may be silly [to] say but seriously all of this love. Really, truly, it’s more than I expected, it’s changed my life,“ he said.
