LOS ANGELES — BIPOC-AIC has opened the application process for its new microgrant program designed to assist BIPOC performers and content creators in financial need, particularly those dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
„While the CARES Act made provisions for gig workers and others previously unable to qualify for unemployment benefits, it excluded sex workers and those working online,“ a rep explained. „Following the lead of other sex worker-led organizations, BIPOC-AIC’s Microgrant Program supports BIPOC performers and content creators who have worked in NSFW media of any kind.“
„To date, BIPOC-AIC has raised $6100, allowing [for] three $500 microgrants per month from September to November while simultaneously running Wellness and Education programs,“ said the rep. „The application period runs through September 10, with grants paid on September 15. Grants do not require repayment. Applicants who are not selected to receive assistance in a given month will automatically be entered into the following month’s grant cycle. BIPOC-AIC is continuing to accept donations for its mutual aid fund to extend the microgrants program. Donations can be made via GoFundMe.“
The group’s Sinnamon Love said the program grew out of initial conversations about a performer strike.
